HAM IT DOWN

'Ham It Down' is the fruit of the Global Game Jam of 2019. Our group consisted mainly of fellow students from my master course as well as other talented people, such as concept artists and 3D artists at Bellecour Ecole (Lyon, France).

GAMEPLAY

'Ham It Down' is an asymmetrical party game with elements of infiltration. Taking on the role of the 'Little Three Pigs', players need to reinforce the interior of their home against outside attacks. But little do they know that the fourth pig is actually an impostor in disguise, bent on sabotaging the other players' efforts.

The role of each player is determined randomly at the beginning of the game session through different vibration patterns in their joysticks. This event lasts only for a mere 2 seconds and the patterns are impossible to distinguish from each other by listening to them.

Next up, players need to interact with various locations in the game environment either to restock their repair materials or use those on damaged windows and walls. Having a limited durability that gets weakened over time, barricades need to be repaired by interacting with them. Thus, the pigs' ultimate goal is to keep all barricades up until the final timer runs out. Contrarious to them, the wolf needs to prevent this. By interacting with barricades, they can place an invisible and timed effect on them that automatically triggers after X seconds or it can be used instantaneously by pressing the right button. Naturally, the wolf wins if they manage to destroy a barricade before the timer runs out.

Nonetheless, players can interact with each other as well. Influenced by their paranoia and suspicion, players can tackle other pigs to stun them for a couple of seconds. Lastly, players can even get eliminated after successfully receiving 3 tackles. This fact mixed with the uncertainty of the roles creates a dynamic and quick gameplay.
